Sorry, my love. I spent the night with a guy named Oscar.

IIIIIIT's aaaa wonderful night for Oscar! Please tell me you remember that song. Billy Crystal used to sing it when he was the Academy Awards' host. Oh, those glorious days. Anyway, I'm REALLY happy tonight. Clint Eastwood won for best Director and Million Dollar baby as Best Picture!!!

Clint is GOD. Period.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start from the beginning.
Once upon a time there was a place called Hollywood, where regular human beings, (only with lots of money and interesting jobs) lived there. These guys were chosen by the world to be their heroes; The gods of our era. (Yes, maybe you're thinking this is an overstatement, but don't deny that if you are sitting in a diner and suddenly Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt or any other actor arrive and say hi to you, your heart would beat a thousand times faster than usual). Anyway, these guys have a role. To create. To tell stories. To make us cry and laugh. To make us believe we're living other lives, even if it's just for the two hours the film lasts.

So, once every year, there's one night where we see these gods up close. Where we get to see them as flesh and blood human beings. That night is in the Academy Awards.
7:30 pm . I started watching the show. But there was the Rock issue.I got to be honest. I was not really amused with the idea of having Chris Rock as the host. I think sometimes his sense of humor is...Cheap. Anyway, I got to admit he made me laugh a couple of times. He did okay. So I kept watching, looking for my favorite actors, but as the show went on, something weird happened.

There were NO actors at all!

Where the hell was everyone? Did you see the AA on TV? Isn't the auditorium supposed to be filled with stars? Where were they?? I saw like ten of them. Honest. In the first row there were the nominees and behind them....Extras? Their cousins? The bodyguards? Hell, I have no idea who were those guys?! And remember how the Academy never let the auditorium look empty? How they used to hire some guys to fill in while some actor was on the bathroom or making out someplace else? Well, I guess the Academy needs to hire more of those guys because the whole place looked like a church on Monday.
But I hey! I can live with that. I try not to be so negative, but I really got to say how I hated a couple of things:
- The intro of the night. The presentation, video, short film, movie about movies or however you want to call it, seemed it was made five minutes before the show. The images were great, but the music they used and how the used it was just TERRIBLE.
-I hated the "original" songs. It's really depressing if you think that those were the best of the year.
-I hated Salma Hayek talking for five minutes. She's really annoying. Why? Ahm...Because I say so! Besides she got to kiss Pierce Brosnan in "After the Sunset". That's enough to hate her.
- Who the hell invited P. Diddy and Prince? No offense but this are the Academy Awards!! Not the Grammys.
- Remember when they showed us a tiny video of the documentaries and short films that were nominated? Well, no videos this time.

Anyway...Enough complaining for one night. Now the good part:

- CLINT WON!!!
- CLINT WON!!!!!!
- CLINT WON!!!
- Oh yeah and...CLINT WON!!!
No, seriously, I agreed with most of tonight's decisions. Morgan Freeman, Jammie Foxx, Cate Blanchett, Charlie Kaufman, Sideways for original script, The Incredibles, those were good decisions. Sorry for you Mr. Scorcese. Maybe next year. Or next decade. Whatever.

I'll stop boring you now. Check your favorite movie sites (imdb.com, darkhorizons.com, aint-it-cool-news.com, etc) and rejoice once again reading that...CLINT WON!!! WOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

God, he's sexy.

Have a nice week, sinners!

Words of a sleepy, contemplative Ms. Mysterious

Life is tricky. Here we are, strange creatures in a strange world, trying to survive day by day, trying to understand our mission in life. Our destiny.
If you can fly, run faster than a train and leap tall buildings in a single bounce, then it's easy to know what your mission is. If you're like the rest of us, regular humans, then it's most probable that you're basically...LOST.
So what do we do? We try to make our short journey through this earth worthwhile. We look for the magic in our lives. This is the moment when you say "What the hell is she talking about? Magic? Should I look for David Copperfield? David Blaine? Is she under medication?
No, sinners. Not under medication (at least not yet). Just in a really corny mood.

It's just one of those boring days, where you have to sit down for a moment and try to find some meaning in life. When you look around and you realize that even though things are not bad, they're not what you once planned. Once again I became aware that a combination of Unexpected things and poor planning lead me where I am. I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to understand things. Also I'm in an honest mood. Damn, maybe I just need to write something.

Things not always make sense, and beyond all that confusion you have to find the thing that keeps you sane. Balanced. The thing that makes you forgive yourself for the stupid things you've done, or the things you should have done. So, I looked for it. For the magic in my life, for the thing that helps me wake up every morning. And guess what was it? Friendship. Yeah, I told you I was in a corny, contemplative mood. Don't complain if you kept reading this far.
Friends give you hope and strength. They make you see how stupid you can be sometimes, and help you to be a better person. They believe in you, even when you don't believe in yourself. The forgive and forget. Everything is an adventure, even if you only go to buy an ice-cream cone, if you lie down on the dirt watching stars, if you sit down in the same room reading your favorite comic books without saying a single word, or if you vegetate all day watching movies together. It doesn't matter what you do: every minute is worth it.

So, yeah, I'm writing stupid, emotional and irrelevant things. That happens when you realize how boring and empty your life can be without the people you love next to you. Also, I just needed to feel something. Sometimes I just feel Numbtown sucks all my energy and emotions. That I'm here without being here. Die Numbtown, DIE!!!

I guess I feel better now.

All star Superman #1 by artist Frank Quitely. Ms. Mysterious favorite image of the day.Someone will have to explain me someday why the hell I don't have powers. Enjoy, sinners. G'nite! Posted by Hello

A plague on your house, Abrams!!

This week on Alias: S4 Ep.7 "Détente". The show about nothing. Yes, it sucked big time. Again. I don't know if I should cry or fly to Hawaii to the set of LOST (also created by JJ Abrams) and make him pay more attention to Alias. I guess he's so into his new show, that he just forgot that thanks to Alias he's who he is now in the show business. Damn you Abrams!!!! Wake up!
So, what's going to happen now? I'll keep watching Alias. I'll keep hoping for better stories, and I'll start watching LOST. (I just saw the pilot and it was creepy. Yes, I'm easily scared).
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll drown my sorrow in junk food. See ya later.

Power for the people! (That means you, sinners)

Knowledge is power, ladies and gentlemen! And on internet you can get it for FREE!!!! Have I told you how much I love it? So much information (and disinformation) at the tip of your hands. We get to be IN the world without really being part of it. Yes, Numbtown blows, just come and live here for a couple of years and you'll get my point.
This whole ranting comes from my infatuation with Comedy Central's The Daily show, with Jon Stewart, my current GOD. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, The Daily Show tells the news of the day (hence "daily") and transforms them into something interesting and amusing that you really care to hear. Let's face it, who likes to watch regular news? We watch them, but we're bored to death. Stewart and his team give their unique perspective about the current world affairs and make intelligent and funny statements that will put a smile on your face.
So, why am I talking about this?Well, I woke up this morning and as I was surfing the net, I couldn't help myself and I watched for the sixth time Jon Stewart's appearance clip on the now canceled (thanks to Stewart) CNN debate show Crossfire. I know, I know. This is old news but I can't help it. It's fun to watch. This is a guy that takes his job seriously and that tries to be as honest as possible, even on National TV, and THAT'S always refreshing. It's good to know there are still reporters, people with power to reach the masses that care to give supported facts and true and honest opinions.

Hell, just watch the damn show! You won't regret it. In the meantime, you can watch over and over again Stewart kicking some serious CNN butt:

And remember! Knowledge is power, sinners!

LUV LUV LUV!!!

Happy Valentine's my dear and faithful sinners!!! This year I've decided to put a little more attention to this dreadful and corny day, you know, just like one more social experiment. And just to continue with this romantic, sexy mood, my favorite song today is "Down with love" by Spanish artist/composer Miguel Bose. Once again he reinvents himself in "Velvetina" , his new album, a combination of electronic music, elegant arrangements and friendly pop melodies . If you've never heard of him before, and you want to listen to a great production, I strongly recommend this album. If you can't stand even for a little bit electronic beats and arrangements, and your more into adult contemporary music, listen "Bajo el signo de Cain" (1993) and "Sereno" (2002), both are really great albums. That's it for today, sinners! and remember:

...Give it all when in love...

- Bose

The case of the disappearing TV plots

Yes. More ranting about TV shows. So, sue me! This is what I do on the weekends, you know? I have my TV dates with Mr. M, and we watch Alias, Smallville, Galactica and The Daily show with Jon Stewart. Everything to keep up with this romantic, corny and beautiful long distance relationship. (It's no picnic you know! You may laugh now but someday I might write a book about it! "How to avoid killing your boyfriend that studies on the other side of the world" ) But enough about me. Let's start chopping heads off.

Alias S4 Ep6- Nocturne. Sydney gets a dangerous, mind-altering hickey in What it seems somewhat like a combination between the movie "28 days later" and some creepy Warren Ellis story.
But don't worry! She survives (Sorry if I spoiled you anything, but you see, SHE'S the protagonist. She can't die in the middle of the season).

As Mr. M said before, Alias has lost its focus. Remember those beautiful, glorious days when Alias was fun to watch? When you suffered everytime the show ended on a cliffhanger and you wanted to throw stuff to the TV? You cursed the name of JJ Abrams because the show was so damn good that you didn't want to wait a whole week to see where the story would go.

Yeah, I liked episodes 4 and 5, and episode 6 had nice moments. But I don't want NICE moments. I want COOL moments, incredible, mind-spinning, heart- pumping episodes! In the old days (and by that I mean seasons one and two), if you failed to watch one episode, the next one was confusing as hell! Things HAPPENED on the show. There was a plot. The story took us to places. Rambaldi, SD- 6, Sydney and Vaughn's romance, Irina's intentions, the relationship between Syd and Jack, Syd's double life, the Alliance, the constant danger!

Not conviced? Just try to explain to someone what happened on season one. Then on season two. Then season three. Then tell me what has happened until now in season four. Noticed how long you took explaining Seasons 1 & 2 and how you really couldn't say anything interesting about season 4? What has happened until now? Everyone works for Sloane now. We still don't now his intentions. Jack and Syd are back where they started. Vaughn are Syd are having a weird relationship. Irina is dead (supposedly) and....That's it! But where are they going as spies? They've been fighting against biological weapons over and over again, with no connection whatsoever between them.

I still have faith in this program. Really. I love the characters. But I want to see them grow! I want to see changes! I want to watch them make life altering decisions at the same time they eat a pizza and save the world! So, please Mr. Abrams....FOCUS!!!!!!!

*Breath Ms. Mysterious....count to ten....breath in..breath out...*
Now we may continue.

On the other hand we have Smallville S4 E13 "Recruit", where Clark goes to Metropolis on a football recruiting trip. Lois gets in trouble. Clark saves the day. Okay here's one example of stupid, yet entertaining, plot with character development. Erica Durance is perfect as Lois, slowly winning Clark's affection, while we get to see a little bit more of how the teenage Clark deals with problems and how little by little he turns into the boy scout of steel that we all love. Not enough motivation to watch it? Well, if you think Viggo Mortensen is cute, the bad guy on this episode (Chris Carmack) is Viggo's younger replica. (I almost can assure you he's a clone) God bless genetics!

Pay for your sins now! Read Vogon poetry!

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. If you've read the books already, You got to admit that everything about this movie just looks ...PERFECT. This is a picture of the Vogons, the guys that will destroy the Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass. What's interesting about this guys is that the way they torture people is by reading poetry. Yeah, you might think that poetry is not THAT bad, but you haven't heard THEIR poetry!!! Yes, sinners, the third worst poetry in the universe is written by Vogons. So if you have someone you want to torture (just as I want to torture my high school students) you might find useful this link where you have your own Vogon Poem Generator!!!!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/hitchhikers/vogonpoetry/lettergen.shtml

Here's my very own vogon poem. If you want to pay for past sins and suffer keep on reading. This WILL get ugly.

See, see the fighter sky
Marvel at its big pink depths.
Tell me, Puedco do you
Wonder why the poodle ignores you?
Why its foobly stare
makes you feel annoyed.
I can tell you, it is
Worried by your ajua! facial growth
That looks like
A cheese.
What's more, it knows
Your pensacola potting shed
Smells of peas.
Everything under the big fighter sky
Asks why, why do you even bother?
You only charm shoess.

You think you can do worst? Show me! Let's fill this world with Vogon poems!Posted by Hello

Social experiment no.1:The Galactica affair

Mr. Marshmallow man has spoken. Actually, he took the words right out of my mouth. Damn you! Now what am I going to talk about?

I guess it would be futile to say, once more, how Battlestar Galactica rules. How yesterday that I saw episode six on my weekly TVdate with Mr. M, I was still impressed by the interesting, juicy plot and character development they have.

Characters are flesh and blood, just like you and me, sinners. Yes, they're on a spaceship chased by robots but that's beyond the point. The interesting thing, what makes them unique are their flaws. They're not perfect heroes, with answers for everything. They're just like you and me. Humans. And THAT'S when you fall in love with a show. When writers and actors are so good that they make you empathize with someone on screen. When you believe it could be you up there, just trying to survive day by day.

Let's face it. Science fiction has never been take seriously by society in general. Some people just believe they're just stupid, childish, intranscendental stories. Well, Battlestar Galactica will prove them wrong. Really, you should make an experiment out of this. Invite your best non-geek buddy to watch Galactica. Then, when he realizes how wrong he's been about Sci-fi genre, make him be your slave for a couple of months for all those years he spent in ignorance.
Come on, Sinners! Let's make this a better world for all the geeks to live in!

To Galactica and beyond!

So, I guess that I should introduce myself.... I am Mrs. Mysterious Marshmellow's boy toy... errr.. boyfriend, and I'll be popping in every once in a while to takj about, well, comics, movies, tv, books ans so on...

But enough about me, I mean seriously, who wants to know about the fact that I am living in Australia, while my bombon is living in numbtown? Why would you care about the dificulties involved in keeping such long distance relationship alive for so long? I mean let's face it, you are reading this because the title for the post says Galactica... and thus Galactica I shall blog about. I will speak about the wonders of Battlestar Galactica, I will sing to the winds about how Galactica is probably the show to watch this season.

To be honest, Galactica is now my favorite show (it used to be Alias, which quite frankly has sort of lost its focus, its charisma, its appeal, and quite frankly has proven to be boring as hell). However Galactica has surprisingly proven to be the most compelling hour on television I've seen in years. I say surprisingly because I never thought that it was going to work! I mean let's face it, I thought that Science Fiction television was dead! Neither Andromeda nor Stargate had proven to be compelling enough, for me at least, to keep me watching them on a weekly basis. As for Enterprise... well, It just never seemed to work.

Galactica however has proven to be a compelling and fantastic show to watch. I have found the scripts to be intelligent and adult. The actors, both men and women, are sexy, capable and charismatic. Edward James Olmos is very effective and sometimes intimidating (when needed) as Commander Adama, but having said that, I love the way that Mary Mcdonell put him in his place on the fifth episode. And while I know that the premise isn't original, it's a remake after all, It has been really well executed so far. So I can now certify that Battlestar Galactica is Sinners approved. So go, watch, repent for watching silly shows like Enterprise, days of our lives, NCIS and so on... Go watch the best sci-fi in television in years, and probably the best show on tv this season.

P.S. will add a blogroll and so on soon. And no, expect more Galactica goodness in later posts, there is really a lot of things to talk about the show. It's really the only show that both the ms and I talk about after our weekly tvdate...

Today's quote....

...If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

G'nite, sinners :)

Oh yeah. Reading time.

Have I told you how I need vacations? I MISS BLOGGIN EVERY FREAKIN' DAY!!!!! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Yes my dear sinners, my jobs are time consuming..But alas! Ms. Mysterious blog shall prevail, or my name will no longer be Ms. Mysterious woman of...of...Mystery! *sigh* Let's start, shall we?

Judd Winnick is one of my favorite writers of the last decade, with great, amusing titles such as Barry Ween, Green Lantern and Exiles. So, when I started reading Batman: As the crow flies, (Winnick and Nguyen) I expected a story worth reading. Man, I was wrong. The word to describe As the crow flies would be...BLEH. The story is pretty flat. The bad guys are The penguin and Scarecrow and...That's it. To be honest there's nothing else worth mention. Aaaanyway...Let's talk about more pleasant things.

After the bad taste As the crow flies left me, I prayed for a better Batman story. And that's when War Drums comes in. The TPB collects Detective comics 790-796 and Robin 126- 128. (Writers Andersen Gabrych and Bill Willinham, Artists P. Woods, D. Scott and B. Walker). The most interesting thing about this story is to watch Batman, a loner, a man obsessed with his job, deal with his surrogate family, including Dr. Leslie Thompson, Alfred, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown (Robin's replacement at the time). And even though is not the best Batman story that you will ever read, it has great memorable moments that will make it all worth while.
So, that's it. The gods of time finally gave me a chance to catch up with my reading and blogging. I guess those human sacrifices were useful...Muahahaha...*Sigh* just kidding! Okay...No more bad jokes...(at least not today) I promise :)

Battlestar Galactikies

no, no, no, no... I'm not ashamed of you because you are enjoying the NEW Battlestar Galactica... I'm not even ashamed that at some point you might have watched the OLD Battlestar Galactica... What I'm ashamed of is the fact that you were a fan of the OLD show, and REMEMBER THE ENDING!!!! I mean... seriously... I know the address to Clark Kent's apartment, the oath to the Green Lantern Corps, own 2 statues, one of the animated Superman and the other one of Batman, can explain to you the reason why the Federation symbol from Star Trek is shaped like that and even with all that I couldn't possibly be in the same league as you on the geekness level. You are now officially so geeky that even the geekness tests wouldn't be able to qualify you... They don't even bother to ask "Have you ever watched the old Battlestar Galactica?" because that officially puts you outside the grading scale..
But I still love you... :)

Is your neighbor a cylon?

The cylons are coming!!!! Yes, my dear sinners, my boyfriend, Mr. Marshmallow man is ashamed of me. I'm afraid to say it but...I'm a Battlestar Galactica fan. OOOH the shame!!
Hell, no! There's no shame about it! It's worst to say that you're a trekie, don't you think? Damn...I like Star Trek too.
Okay, let's move on, shall we?
I became aware that Battlestar Galactica existed just a couple of weeks ago. Yes, I know this is old news but remember, living in Numbtown is no picnic. Sometimes we're really cut off from true civilization. So, when I found that there was a TV show that was called just like the one that existed 25 years ago I decided to check it out. To my surprise, this Battlestar Galactica has everything a science fiction geek needs; An interesting and tight plot, with good action sequences (yeah, and by that I include space battles), scary robots and a nice set design (Hey, when you're watching a show that's supposed to be in the future, somewhere in the galaxy, you really need to feel that you're in space!). Something that really hooked me was to see how the actors are capable of showing the complexity and humanity in each of their characters. And you gotta love when a girl is the one that saves the day. Yeah. Some dames know how to pilot a spaceship.
So, in the end, I know I've only seen the two-part mini series, but hell, did I have fun! I promise to catch up with the next ten episodes, so you can complain about my new infatuation. In the meantime I could use some sleep. (I could use some vacations also...hmm)
G'nite!
